No, you don’t need a referral to access counselling at The Affirming Place. To make a new enquiry you can contact Em via phone or email.

The Affirming Place is unable to provide Medicare rebates at this stage.

We offer some private health rebates with GU Health and Bupa. Check with your private health fund for more information.

Yes! The Affirming Place provides counselling services to NDIS recipients.

We understand that things come up and sometimes you won’t be able to attend your appointments. If you are unable to make your appointment please contact Em 48 hours before your appointment to reschedule.
Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment will incur the full appointment fee.

Yes! We offer video telehealth through Zoom, and audio only telehealth via phone.

Absolutely! The Affirming Place offers video and audio telehealth around Australia. If you are currently residing outside of Australia please contact Em to discuss.

As soon as you like. There is no current waitlist for services.

Currently, Em is only available on Fridays.
Telehealth appointments may be available one evening a week. Please contact Em to discuss.

Counselling services provided at The Affirming Place are almost always confidential.
There are times where Em may have to share things you have shared in session when required by law or to keep you or someone else safe. If this were to happen Em would almost always speak with you first and inform you of the process.
Em can talk more about this with you in your first session or you can contact Em with any questions.

Finding a good mental health practitioner can be like finding the right pair of shoes, you have to try a few before you find the right fit.
If you don’t think Em is the right fit for you let Em know.
As someone who has tried many different mental health professionals before finding the right fit, Em understands how important it is to find someone who works best for you. There are no hard feelings if we aren’t the right fit for you!

Yes, The Affirming Place is located in a wheelchair accessible building. With a concreted downward slope to enter the building. The surrounding footpaths are mostly flat with some lips and bumps. Surface concrete is uneven consisting of concrete in pebbles.
There is a non gendered wheelchair accessible bathroom on the premises.
Please note there is limited accessible parking available in front of the building. There is a drop off zone 200m from the building entrance for taxi, rideshare, or drop off.
